The Phoenicia voyager makes homecoming
The Phoenicia ship expedition concluded its historic voyage, celebrating a homecoming to the ancient port at Tartous last month.
The 20,000 mile voyage recreated the first circumnavigation of Africa over two and a half thousand years ago one on board a replica of the 600 BC Phoenician Ship, originally launched from the ancient port at Arwad Island.
Built and launched in Syria in 2008, Phoenicia links the Middle East, Africa and Europe through a cultural odyssey, stopping at Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Oman, Comoros Islands, Mozambique, South Africa, The Azores, Gibraltar, Tunisia, Malta, and Lebanon.
