The cabinet agreed in its weekly meeting on Tuesday to the entry of a third GSM operator in a three-phase process including initial rehabilitation, investment and technical rehabilitation and the financial auction.

The cabinet also granted an initial approval on turning the contracts of the two current operators with Build-Operate-Transfer (B.O.T) system, Syriatel and MTN Syria, to licenses after they pay their financial obligations to the state treasury.
