120 new industrial projects in 2009
The Syrian Investment Commission announced that 120 industrial projects were carried out in Syria last year, according to the Syrian News Agency. These include 101 transport projects and 40 agricultural projects
The Commission report declared that the number of projects during the period from 1991 through 2009 stood at 3,301, of which 18.4% were executed. In 2009, however, there was a 9.4% increase, added the report classifying the projects as covering different sectors like engineering, industrial, industrial zones, and food projects.
The report cited legislative decree No. 8 for the year 2007 that has been a catalyst, with the many facilities and incentives for investors it includes.
