Rawafed launches cultural incubator
With the aim of empowering artists and people working in the cultural field by supporting socially-conscious cultural and creative initiatives, Rawafed’s Cultural Projects Incubator plans to create dialogue in the social environment surrounding projects it supports.
Rawafed, the cultural project of the Syria Trust for Development, has recently launched the Cultural Projects Incubator, and is currently receiving applications until April 15. This latest initiative stems from Rawafed’s vision to create a diverse, vibrant and strong cultural sector that draws on Syria's rich heritage to foster creativity and excellence in cultural work.
The programmes of Rawafed focus on drawing on core Syrian cultural strengths (assets and skills) to achieve its goals. Priority is given to activities that contribute to the capacity building of artists, planners and cultural managers. Key to their approach is the promotion of the work of Syrian artists and Syrian heritage, with a main focus on cultural experiences that fuse the contemporary with the traditional.
Nada Othman, Manager of Rawafed, told Forward Magazine, “Rawafed is a cultural project concerned with cultural development and building creative capacities, and it is the latest establishment of the Syria Trust. Rawafed has worked for two years supporting musical initiatives including the Jazz Festival, Oriental Landscapes, and Syrian Children’s Orchestra.”
“Our communication approach is result-oriented, and we adopt a participatory approach with partners (local and international) and with the people (the beneficiaries),” furthered Othman, saying this approach results in many agreements and partnerships locally and globally; the latest partnership to be signed was with Rakan Razzouq of the Syrian Computer Society, for the provision of technical support and consulting for the incubated projects of Rawafed.
